This photo illustrates right well what a well done clothes-line is following the ancient canon. According to this not written but commonly accepted norm, you should imagine that you see this clothes-line of the reverse.
According to my aunt:

Claro, así quédache un tendal bonito que xa che leva a vista. Se é de dúas cordas empesas pola grande na de fóra, que luce máis sensillo e non chama a atensión. Aghora hai moita chafallada nos tendais. Boh!”
