BLOGMETENDAL DCCLXX: Being Clothes.

26 Jul BLOGMETENDAL DCCLXX: Being Clothes.

Being clothes isn’t easy. It’s very hard on them.
They spend most of their time on a hanger—and that’s not even the worst of it! Often they’re buried under other clothes, suffocating them.
And we put them on, and take them to all sorts of places without asking them if they want to go.
Sometimes, even though they’re not rainwear, we put them out in the rain and soak them like mops.
Sometimes, even though they’re not meant for the cold, we put them out in the cold and they shiver.
If a tidy person wears them, that’s fine. But if not… we pair them with other clothes that, under ordinary circumstances, they’d never in a million years wear together. We toss them on the couch, with one sleeve right side out and the other inside out, and we even sit on them or step on them. Or we leave them on the floor—sometimes in the heat of an understandable excitement of passion—but we step on them, leaving them exposed to a dog or a cat, which cover them in fur that you can’t get out never.
And the laundry basket! Days spent reeking of the stench of other clothes, some of which really stink (and it’s not their fault!).
And the washing machine. It drowns them and makes them dizzy. It’s not that it removes their dirt—it’s that they just throw it up!
And the dryer is another another torturous experience: a dehydrator, a desert wind that doesn’t remove the dog or cat hair from them.
And the clothesline. If it’s cold, because the cold freezes them; if it’s sunny, because the sun burns them; if it’s windy, because the wind drives them crazy; and even if it rains! Because they end up with a weird smell—small, but unpleasant.
And they suffer through our sweat and our moods. Oh yes, sometimes love too! But they’re likely to get the worst of it.
That’s how some of them end their day: completely worn out. This one isn’t drying or getting some fresh air – it’s regaining her strength!
